Using a surface miner allows you to methodically mine or prep a site — optimizing productivity and precision while eliminating many of the safety challenges and restrictions associated with drilling and blasting.
In May 2002, DOI developed its own information quality guidelines and required Interior offices and bureaus to do the same. In November 2002, OSMRE issued a Federal Register Notice that announced the availability of guidelines to ensure that information quality within the Office of Surface Mining would be consistent with OMB and DOI requirements.
Surface mining, method of extracting minerals near the surface of the Earth. The three most common types of surface mining are open-pit mining, strip mining, and quarrying. See also mining and coal.
Associated with these surface mining systems are design, production, environmental, and management challenges that must be addressed through fundamental and applied research initiatives. This Special Issue will focus on frontiers of surface mining research currently being pursued in order to address these challenges.
The Surface Mining and Reclamation Division also administers a program to reclaim dangerous or environmentally harmful abandoned mine sites that were mined prior to the implementation of the federal surface mining law in 1975 to ensure the safety of the public and protect the environment by eliminating these hazardous abandoned mines throughout the state.

The surface mining methods can be classified as shown here. We will discuss the mechanical extraction methods in this lesson. Figure 8.2.1: Classification of Surface Mining Methods Click to expand to provide more information. Surface Mining methods can be …
Explanation of how the Index is Developed The PBCo Mining Equipment Index is a measure of the quarterly evolution of surface mining equipment shipments worldwide. It relies on data from Parker Bay's Mobile Mining Equipment …
In a surface mine, hard rock must be drilled and blasted, although some minerals are soft enough to mine without blasting. Placer mining is used to recover valuable minerals from sediments in present-day river channels, beach sands, …
Surface mining/open-pit mining is the oldest form of resource extraction involving minerals from the Earth's surface. While old surface mining methods were labor-intensive, modern techniques utilize heavy machinery to …
Surface mining methods in use world-wide for the extraction of stratified and metalliferous minerals are briefly examined, together with the equipment for excavation, loading and transportation ...
Mining Records The digital records available here are scans of the literature originally found in DOGAMI published and unpublished hardcopy holdings. Scans have been combined into single PDFs that may include maps, letters, news clippings, photographs, and reports.
The Kentucky Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Office of Surface Mining and the Kentucky Department for Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement initiated a meeting on September 20, 2001. The meeting was held to discuss the administrative, legal, technical, and financial aspects for developing a comprehensive mine mapping system
Surface Mining . As an experienced contractor with a strong track record in regional and remote development work, we have the capacity and experience to deliver comprehensive Load and Haul solutions for mining projects. As a showcase of capabilities we provide as follows; Bulk earthworks for mine developments including Underground Box Cuts.
Surface mining is a form of mining in which the soil and the rock covering the mineral deposits are removed. It is the other way of underground mining, in which the overlying rock is left behind, and the required mineral …
The three surface mining divisions of the Department for Natural Resources use a geographic information system (GIS) to capture, query, display and store spatial data. GIS technology allows department staff to combine different data resources linked to a specific location and display the information visually, usually on a map.
The equipment used depends on the method and scale of the surface mining method being employed. Regrading begins as coal excavation continues. Once coal removal is complete, final regrading takes place and the area is revegetated. The operation is required to reclaim the mine to "AOC" or "approximate original contours" unless this requirement ...
There are five recognized types of surface mining, each with specific variations depending on the minerals being extracted. These include strip mining, open-pit mining, mountaintop removal, dredging and highwall mining.
The National Mine Map Repository (NMMR) maintains point locations for mines appearing on maps within its archive. This dataset is intended to help connect the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, other federal, state, and local government agencies, private industry, and the general public with archived mine maps in the NMMR's …
The reason why mining multi-scale information is necessary for the semantic segmentation task is illustrated in Fig. 1. For ensuring satisfactory segmentation accuracy, a network should encode the information of the objects from different sizes rather than a fixed size.
Continuous surface mining is a method of mineral extraction that uses specialized equipment instead of explosives. Surface miners cut through the ground in a methodical, row-by-row and layer-by-layer manner, which results in a more controlled and efficient mining process. This approach has numerous advantages, including the ability to produce ...
The Applicant Violator System (AVS) is an automated information system owned and operated by OSMRE. Information on applicants, permittees, operators, application and permit records, as well as unabated or uncorrected environmental violations of SMCRA are maintained in this nationwide database for OSMRE's Federal and State programs.

Mining - Prospecting, Exploration, Resources: Various techniques are used in the search for a mineral deposit, an activity called prospecting. Once a discovery has been made, the property containing a deposit, called the prospect, is explored to determine some of the more important characteristics of the deposit. Among these are its size, shape, orientation in space, …
